The NDIS is the new way of providing support for people with disability

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) came in to effect on the Central Coast on 1 July, 2016. This covers the local government area districts of Gosford and Wyong.

The NDIS has been designed to support people with disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and employment. The NDIS will help you to access to mainstream services, community services, and receive other reasonable and necessary funded supports.

How do I apply for the NDIS?

The NDIS is available to Australians under 65 who are living with a permanent and significant disability. If you are/were receiving funding from ADHC (Ageing, Disability and Home Care), the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will transition you to the new scheme.

The NDIA will appoint a Local Area Co-ordinator who will contact you to arrange a meeting and begin the process of receiving funding under the NDIS.

What can I do to get started?

Your first NDIS plan will be in place for 12 months. Be prepared for your NDIS meeting when it happens; keep a diary of everything you do in your life now … daily routine … regular activities … as much as possible about your current situation and supports. Make a note of what is working well, and what might need to change. This information will form the basis of your first plan.

If you need help or advice, arrange an obligation-free pre-planning meeting with us. We understand that just as no two disabilities are the same, no two people will have the same NDIS Plan. Fairhaven can help you develop a personalised plan specifically for your needs.
